Karelia to obtain extra resources
The session on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of Karelia chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov will be held on December, 2 in Moscow. Head of the Republic Sergey Katanandov has taken part in it. The delegation of Karelia also included the Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Government and the Official Representative of Karelia at the President of Russian Federation Anatoly Markov, Acting Assistant to the Prime Mnister of the Government and Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Lyudmila Kosyuk, Minister of Culture and Public Relations Galina Brun, Minister of Agriculture, Fish Industry and Ecology Grigory Manuylov, as well as representatives of federal ministries and business circles of the republic.

Karelia should keep high level of innovative development
In the context of economic recession Karelia assigns most of its budgetary funds to support of social and economic stability. Although investments into capital projects are reduced, the republic continues to introduce innovations in various spheres of life, as the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lev Shustov has told at the daily briefing in the government of Karelia making a report On the Guidelines of Innovative Development of the Republic of Karelia.

Petrozavodsk will welcome the International Relations of Municipalities Conference
On November 25-26 within the scope of the final action of the Petrozavodsk - Joensuu: Towns in Development project of the Neighbourhood program of the EU Petrozavodsk will host the Vth International Conference International Relations of Municipalities. The conference is organized by the administration of Petrozavodsk urban district and Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science.

Sergey Katanadov has taken part in the Finnish-Russian forest summit
Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanadov has taken part in the Finnish-Russian forest summit held in St.Petersburg.
A number of fundamental, even saving decisions for the forestry branch of Karelia had been made at the international forum.
Moratorium on increase of round timber export customs duties will be prolonged for 2010, and perhaps for 2011. It was declared by the Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin at the Third Finnish-Russian forest summit in St.Petersburg. Now the duty makes €15 per one cubic metre of timber, and since January 1, 2010 it should grow up to €50 per one cubic metre. It would lead to crash of a number of forest enterprises and would threaten future of the branch.
In turn, it is also extremely important for the economy of Finland which in many respects is focused on Russian round timber. Experts specify, that such decision will positively affect negotiations between Russia and Finland on the subject of the Nord Stream gas main and dialogue between Russia and the European Union on the entry into the WTO.

Delegation from Karelia participates in the investment forum SOCHI-2009
Today, on September 18, the city of Sochi welcomes the eighth International investment forum Sochi-2009. The Russia's investment strategy is one of the main subjects on the forum. Among other vital topics of round tables and presentations of the forum there are tax policy, energy efficiency, infrastructural projects under the crisis conditions, and labour market.
